Sæplast under stress in Brussels

At the fisheries exhibition in Brussels last month some things were done for fun at the Sæplast booth.  For instance, guests were invited to test the strength of the Sæplast tubs and an exciting prize was offered to the person who could break a Sæplast tub by hitting it with a hammer.  The main prize was a flight between Iceland and any of the destinations of WOW Air within Europe.

After being issued with appropriate safety protection the participants entered a special cage armed with the blunt instrument of their choice where they could take on a 660 L PE Sæplast tub. Each participant could make three attempts.

A total of 48 guests had a go at this test, armed either with a claw hammer or a sledgehammer. The game caused a lot of attention and often a crowd of people would gather to watch the match between the guests and the Sæplast tub.

The participants agreed that the strength of the tub had really surprised them. Only 8 guests were able to break the outer layer of the tub and it is notable that the cracks made by them were all in the same place on the tub, close to the bottom.  In actual use this part of the tub almost never comes under any considerable stress because in the design the emphasis was naturally on strengthening the parts of the tub around the points where most of the stress is applied.

Since so few people were able to crack the Sæplast tub it was decided to draw out a name from all of the participants in the game. The draw will be carried out in the next few days and the winner will be announced on this website.  In the meantime, you can watch the attempts made by the participants in this entertaining and informative game in the following photos. Best of thanks to all of those who took part.
